How To Test Your Hanvey Van Solenoid

  • Find your van's multimeter (typically hangs on passenger wall in back of van).
  • Turn the dial to approximately 10 o'clock position.
    • This should read 20Vdc.
  • Place the black lead on the terminal test strip location labeled "Ground".
  • Place the red lead on the terminal test strip location labeled "S1".
  • Note the number displayed on the multimeter screen.
  • Move the red lead off "S1" and put it on the terminal test strip location labeled "S2".
  • Note the number displayed on the multimeter screen.
  • You can now turn off and put away the multimeter.
  • Compare your findings between S1 and S2.
  • If the difference of the two numbers is within 0.5V of each other, the solenoid is not bad.
  • If the difference of the two numbers is greater than 0.5V of each other, it is time to replace your solenoid.
  • If you believe you need a solenoid replacement, reach out to us at support@gohanvey.com or by calling 864-269-2912.
